Doing the Right Thing'

This book is the third installment in the Women of Color and Accomplishment series, inspired by the events of 2020. Witnessing the murder of George Floyd and the brutal treatment of peaceful protesters, I was moved to use my art to speak out against racism.

Drawing from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, “The time is always right to do what is right,” I created this series to honor African American women whose achievements are often left out of history books.

This book showcases 32 portraits alongside condensed biographies of the women, past and present, who overcame challenges of race and gender to improve the lives of others.

From Darnella Frazier, whose courage brought George Floyd’s story to the world, to trailblazers in education, science, activism, and more, these women show us that doing what is right can inspire lasting change. Their stories remind us that no act of service is too small when it comes to improving the lives of others and striving for a better society.
